Management Matt Pourfarzaneh, Ph.D. Dr. Pourfarzaneh, a co-founder of Cortex Biochem Inc. since 1989, is responsible for the executive management of the company and the overall direction of scientific research, technology discovery and development. His publishing credits are extensive in the field of magnetic separation technologies. He has more than 25 years of experience in management, product research and commercialization. Prior to joining Cortex Biochem, Inc., Dr. Pourfarzaneh was Director of Applied Technology at Microgenics Corporation, Concord, CA. Dr. Pourfarzaneh initiated and commercialized several key products for Microgenics that in turn strengthened the company's technology and product portfolio, ultimately bringing the company to acquisition. Microgenics was acquired by Boehringer Mannheim Corporation. Dr. Pourfarzaneh previously held positions at Triton Biosciences, Inc., Alameda, CA; International Diagnostics Technology, San Jose, CA; and St. Bartholomew's Hospital, University of London, UK; after completion of his Ph.D. from University of London, UK Leonard I. Karp Mr. Karp, a co-founder of Cortex Biochem, Inc. since in 1989 has more than 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical and medical product marketing and sales. In his current role at Cortex Biochem, Inc., Mr. Karp has leadership responsibility for marketing, sales planning, commercialization partnership, and revenue forecasting. Prior to joining Cortex Biochem, Inc., Leonard Karp was Marketing Manager of Research Reagents at Triton Biosciences Inc, Alameda, CA, where he was responsible for developing markets for a variety of research oncogene and immuno-histopathology products. Mr. Karp previously held positions at Eaton-Norwich Laboratories, Baxter Laboratories, and Boston University School of Medicine. He received his B.A. in Communications from Emerson College, Boston, MA. Edward J. Ritelli Jr. Mr. Ritelli, a co-founder of Cortex Biochem Inc. since 1989 has more than 18 years of experience in finance and management; he oversees the overall financial management of the company. Mr. Ritelli is also Vice President of General Foundry Service Corp, San Leandro, CA and a board member of California Metal Association Board. Prior to Cortex Biochem, Inc. and General Foundry Service Corp, Mr. Ritelli worked at Price Waterhouse, San Francisco, for four years. He has CPA, B.Sc. from UCB and MBA from UCLA. Dokhi Nargessi, Ph.D. Dr. Nargessi joined Cortex Biochem in 1998, and has a leadership role in developing innovative research tools utilizing Cortex Biochem's MagaPhase® (magnetic particles) technology. Dr. Nargessi also has the overall responsibility for the Quality Assurance of the company. Dr. Nargessi is credited with extensive publications in the areas of Immunoassays and Molecular Assays. She is considered to be a renowned expert in the field of Molecular Biology and Nucleic Acid Systems. She has made many contributions while at her prior positions while at Chiron Diagnostics and Ciba Corning Diagnostics, Alameda, CA, where she was leading Cancer Diagnostics Research and development programs for 14 years. She has more than 25 years experience in management and product research and development. Dr. Nargessi holds a Ph.D. Degree in the field of Chemical Pathology from the University of London, London, U.K. in 1980. In addition Dr. Nargessi has a Ph.D. Degree in Pharmacology from the University of Tehran, Iran. Ted Haxo Mr. Haxo is responsible for manufacturing and production scale up of Cortex Biochem products. He is also heads technical operations and is responsible for quality control, production facilities and technical management of OEM partnerships. He has 15 years of industrial experience in development and manufacture of reagent compounds and instrument systems for the Life Sciences market. Mr. Haxo's previous affiliations include positions at Quantum Dot Corporation, where as Associate Director of Product Development, he directed the reagent and software development for the Mosaic™ Gene Expression Assay System. He was also responsible for establishing and overseeing the Quantum Dot's quality management system. In his 9 years tenure at Applied Biosystem, he was responsible for leading the development of manufacturing processes for the high-throughput Taqman® Probe production. Ted received his B.A. in Chemistry and Art History from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Rahman (Ray) Pourfarzaneh, MBA Joining Cortex Biochem in 1990, Mr. Pourfarzaneh is now responsible for the general day-to-day business operations including general administration, finance, accounting, employee benefits, employee relations, and telecommunications systems. Through the demonstration of ability, hard work and dedication, Mr. Pourfarzaneh's responsibilities have increased over time and he has joined the management team. Mr. Pourfarzaneh earned a B.Sc. in Business Administration, CIS and Telecommunications and a Masters in Business Administration. |
